The game is about playing as a survivor of a zombie infestation who must find and lead stranded civilians to safety. It’s notable for using satellite imagery from Google Earth to render its cities. On another table in the Labo area is a purple dragon surrounded by red Gems. This is a reference to 1998’s Spyro the Dragon on PS1, developed by Insomniac Games.

So often that’s where magic in video games happens, and that’s most certainly the case here. On its own, this is a beautifully crafted, exquisitely paced and absolutely gorgeous 3D platformer. Combined with the hardware it’s bundled on, it’s something very special indeed – and one of the best launch titles I can remember in an age. A tech demo shouldn’t have this much of a following, but that’s the power of Team Asobi’s Astro’s Playroom. The Astro Bots made their debut with the PlayStation VR tech demo, The Playroom. They showcased the capabilities of the VR device and left an impression on the higher-ups at Sony.
The vibrations even alternate between the left and right sides of the controller as Astro walks, so you sense each footstep. One family , “the Labo level is great for little ones to get the hang of mastering 3D movement. There are no enemies or places to fall but still some things to interact with and so platforming too”. Some platform games require a lot of skill and combination movements, which can be frustrating to master. For younger players, set time aside to help them learn and practise the skills.
For example, the roller ball goes from being asphalt paths to a pinball machine-like level, while the ship mostly stays the same but has a fun boss to beat with its rockets. In between each standard platforming level are dedicated sections to unique suits for Astro. Memory Meadow, for instance, Astro becomes a little roller ball that uses the Dualsense’s trackpad for control instead of the left thumbstick. Astro’s Playroom is a very simple and small in-scale and scope game. Every bit of platforming presents almost no challenge, and so do the enemies.
Puzzle Piece 1/4 – Right at the start of the area, pull the wire on the right side to reveal this puzzle piece. Artifact 2/2 “DUALSHOCK 4 Wireless Controller” – From the location of puzzle piece 4, drop down to the right where you can see the line of coins and grab another monkey bar. Puzzle Piece 4/4 – Now instead of progressing upward from that puzzle piece, go to the right side of that monkey bar to reach another handhold up to the right, which drops the wall to the right. In this area, there are some spinning shapes on the walls and a puzzle piece directly in the middle of the right one you can grab.
Players can glide into the air, transform into a cannonball and roll their way to the finish line, become a robot monkey, and do some mountain climbing. Additionally, players can transform into a robot frog, allowing them to jump into action. Astro’s Playroom also includes collectibles that represent the history of PlayStation, spanning from the PS1 era to the PS5 era. These collectibles add an extra layer of depth and nostalgia to the game. The game itself effectively utilizes the DualSense controller’s features, resulting in an engaging and innovative gaming experience. Although the game is relatively short, it packs a lot of fun and demonstrates the potential of the PS5 and DualSense in this new generation of gaming.
The main character Ash uses a paint brush that can bring his creations to life. When you get to the very end of the level, you’ll land on a Sacred Symbols rainbow bridge. Turn around and run to the start of the bridge to see two bots at the title screen of “Bot of War”. win79 of War for the PS2, developed by SIE Santa Monica Studio. Every single PS2 God of War was released in a PS3 collection in 2009, while the PSP duo were in 2011.

The latest PlayStation mascot showed off its capabilities while being a fun little game all on its own. I had a bunch of games and PS+ when I got my PS5 but I still played through 100% of this and got the Platinum before I even got to any of them. This guide shows the location of the Special bot in the Memory Meadow area in Astro’s Playroom. This was the fourth and final hidden bot that the developers have been sequentially releasing before the release of the Astro Bot game on 6th Sep 2024. There are small animals such as crabs, rabbits, and toucans that can be found throughout Astro’s Playroom.
The PS VR Processor Unit was a box that both the PlayStation 4 and PSVR connected to. It enabled Social Screen video output to the TV, which meant it adjusted the VR headset’s display so that it was viewable on a television. This also allowed it to be used with asymmetrical multiplayer modes such as those used in The Playroom VR, and handles normal 2D content.
The slight downside is that Astro’s Playroom is concise, as completing the game will take you an hour and a half. However, there are many collectibles to obtain, and Team Asobi has added free content updates. If you ever wanted to earn a platinum trophy, this is the game to do it. Fortunately, Astro’s Playroom has dynamic jumping, which means that holding down X will result in a much bigger jump than just tapping X.
One of the unlockable displays in the Gatcha Game is a house-shaped outline, which gets you the “Honey, I’m Home! This references SCE London Studio’s PlayStation Home, a Second Life-style experience launched in 2008 and closed in 2015. The game let you explore themed spaces and allow you to purchase items to display in your virtual home. At the second Checkpoint, look left to spot a giant white robot with a rock club, and a Bot with a sword and tunic on a tiny pinnacle in front of him. Further along the area where the Horizon and Dreams easter eggs are will be some vines you can move by blowing into your microphone. Inside the cave on the right is a coffin, which if you punch will cause a blonde figure to emerge and pull the lid back on.
This is a reference to 2020’s Death Stranding by Kojima Productions on PS4, which stars Norman Reedus as courier Sam Bridges in a post-apocalyptic America. In the first mud pit in Gusty Gateway, look in the right-hand corner for a skeleton swinging a sword around with a distinctive shield. The shield reveals that this is a reference to 1998’s MediEvil on PS1 by SCE Cambridge, about the knight Sir Daniel Fortesque being brought back to life so he can live up to his own falsified legacy. Throughout the worlds of Astro’s Playroom, you’ll encounter small animals like Rabbits, Squirrels, Crabs and even Toucans. The first two hits on an animal will give you one Coin each, which the third will give you five, for a total of seven!
The Platinum Trophy is a great introduction for new players‚ offering a fun and rewarding experience without excessive difficulty. Backtrack to previous levels to gather any missed collectibles‚ ensuring you don’t miss out on hidden trophies.
