There are a few cool explorable locations like the Emily-May Foundation and Coney Island, but the rest is just a blob of boring buildings. Venom isn’t around long enough either, especially for the impact they act like he had on the city, but it just about made all the waiting worth it. Especially with the added personal connection between Spider-Man and Venom, really highlighting Venom as the dark mirror of Peter. It takes a very long time for Venom to show up, some would say too long, but he steals the show the second he does.

It seemed like it’d be just Kraven and his troops hunting Peter Parker and Miles Morales. Of course, trailers also confirmed Venom would be unleashed upon New York City. Go to the church in the south of Financial District, climb up the back of the church tower. There is a blue cube, press to pick it up while playing as Miles. Play as Miles and go invisible by pressing (after unlocking invisibility from story progress).
Peter now has metallic claw-like arms, but their effectiveness is lower than Morales’ abilities. Peter’s combat system changes with the appearance of the symbiote, adding spectacular and dangerous abilities. There are towers, suit collections, hideout searches, time trials, photo sessions, crime fighting, city residents with their quests, and even random events. However, the main task of the city is to serve as a grand backdrop for the plot.
Gone is the gadget wheel that you have to pause the action to access. Instead, there are 4 combat abilities for each character, and 4 shared gadgets. Insomniac brought back the ability to change the super-suit you have equipped.
Additionally, the game expanded Marvel’s New York, offering new boroughs and a variety of side missions for players to dive into and explore. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 picks up where the stories of Peter Parker and Miles Morales left off, featuring iconic villains such as Venom and Kraven, alongside many beloved returning characters. After months of anticipation, the game is finally set to debut on PC.
The map tracker shows exactly how many collectibles you found in each district and how many are remaining. If a type has a “lock icon” it means the collectible type hasn’t been unlocked yet and is gated behind story progress or other collectible progress. The final collectible of some types only spawns after having found the rest. You can still get everything after the story in free-roam including side quests.
A particularly memorable mission under the dancing lights of Coney Island’s amusement rides is a highlight that manages to impressively capture the story’s essence and bottle up its emotional tension before emphatically smashing it. It’s enough of a roller coaster to hold your interest, and the way the city physically changes and evolves to fit the ongoing narrative is impressive (from ‘post-Sandman attack’ to ‘overrun with big game hunters’ and beyond). But from a project this obviously big and expensive, it all feels disappointingly undercooked.

The game, which released on PS5 in 2023, follows Peter Parker and Miles Morales as they fight classic Spider-Man rouges like Kraven the Hunter and Venom. While the game left some stories open for more down the road, Insomniac Games has addressed whether Spider-Man 2 will get any story DLC. Other big fixes include fixing a crash that happened while quitting Spider-Man 2 too quickly after starting it and another that involved a crash that would happen on quadcore processors after turning ray tracing on. It’s already a great-looking game, though now that it is on PC, players will likely want to push Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to its limits. This new update works to make this possible, with another fix addressing an annoying issue with brightness, contrast, and other visual effects that caused them to reset. As of the PC release of Spider-Man 2 in 2025, these DLC suits are free for all players on both PS5 and PC.
Like many of the game’s quests, the central premise transforms what you’d think superhero work typically looks like. After saving stolen TG88 for the museum, Miles remembers his departed father through his connection to jazz. “My dad really loved Charlie Parker… I guess I need to start listening closer to my playlist now,” he muses. These reflective moments deepen not only the game’s stand-out side content, but also its larger plot. This a dedicated section for the small number of suits that are specifically tied to and/or unlocked within the main story, and therefore are inherently spoilers for certain plot developments or reveals.
